FBI Slammed for Candace Owens Response, “Yikes”

Kash Patel

Far-right political pundit Candace Owens on Monday announced on social media: “Via FOIA, we formally requested Kash Patel’s travel itinerary for the 3 days leading up to Charlie Kirk’s assassination and we just heard back and were told the burden of the request is too great. How is this even remotely legal?”

The FBI Rapid Response account on X responded with its letter responding to Owens’ request and added: “Dear @RealCandaceO Please show us on the document sent to you ACKNOWLEDGING your FOIA request where we said: ‘The burden of the request is too great.’ Your ‘show’ just like the fake news media will be called out when you LIE! We hope this helps.”

[NOTE: The FBI letter does not say the request is “very burdensome” or “too great.” It notifies that “unusual circumstances” apply under FOIA (5 U.S.C. § 552(a)(6)(B)(iii)), citing possible needs to search voluminous records, field offices, or consult other components. This legally extends the standard 20-day response time. It is standard procedural language and offers to narrow the scope for faster processing.]

Several X users criticized the FBI’s response. Conservative political pundit Brandon Straka replied, “This is a government run account?” and “The US government has nothing better to do than make snide social media posts at online influencers?”

The influential “Leah Files” also replied: “The FBI is responding this? Yikes. You do realize this makes you look even more guilty, right?”
