For the most part, the Philadelphia Eagles‘ backfield is having an impressive offseason. Unfortunately, Will Shipley has been on the side of getting attention for the wrong reasons.
Heading into his third season with the Eagles, the former Clemson standout’s stock is tanking. Not only does he seem to be going through a rough patch, but Tank Bigsby’s strong offseason continues to make it clear that Shipley will have a hard time garnering carries once again.

Ahead of the Eagles’ Friday, August 7 practice, NBC Sports Philadelphia listed Shipley as a player whose stock is down.
“He hasnât started to turn the corner on offense. In fact, his best chance for a big play came on Day 5 when he had an awful drop on a Jalen Hurts pass,” Dave Zangaro wrote. “Shipley was wide open with a chance to make a big play when the offense really needed a shot in the arm and he couldnât make it happen.”
Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice had similar notes before that. “Shipley has been out-repped by a mile by Bigsby, and when he had a chance to make a big play when he got schemed wide open on a wheel route, he dropped the pass,” Kempski wrote.
“Shipley entered 2025 camp as the presumed RB2. In 2026 he’s probably just trying to fend off guys behind him like Dameon Pierce, who has looked decent so far.”
Is Shipley Approaching The Chopping Block?

Despite being buried on the Super Bowl-winning depth chart in 2024, Shipley showed plenty of promise. He had 30 carries for 82 yards during the regular season, along with four catches for 35 yards.
Shipley famously ripped off a 57-yard run in the NFC Championship against the Washington Commanders before the Eagles allowed him to later punch it in while they were in the red zone.

In year two, Shipley’s carries were down to just 14. He totaled 49 yards on the ground and 56 yards in the air with nine catches. Shipley didn’t have any carries in the Eagles’ lone playoff game. He might not be panning out as a sure backup after getting taken in the fourth round in 2024, but Shipley can protect his spot on the roster with strong special teams play. Fortunately, he’s still good in that area.
Shipley has plenty of training camp and preseason left to change the narrative about his summer. So far, the ex-Clemson running back is having a hard time standing out for the right reasons.
