While Parton will <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/who-dolly-parton-play-her-musical-about-her-life.html/”>not appear in the musical</a>, she has played a role in its creation. She is producing this show years after saying she wasn’t classy enough to have seen a live stage performance. </p>

<p id=”par-2_30″>In celebration of her 81st birthday, Parton will bring <em><a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/dolly-partons-three-mega-projects-signal-triumphant-return-health-break.html/”>Dolly: A True Original Musical</a></em> to Broadway. The show will have a preview this December before opening on January 19, 2027. </p>
<p id=”par-3_45″>“My whole life has been a musical,” reads a quote from Parton on the musical’s <a href=”https://www.dollymusical.com/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>website</a>. “A grand ole opera, really, and I can’t wait to bring it to you on Broadway. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I’ve enjoyed livin’ it!”</p>

<p id=”par-4_26″>Parton said that she is thrilled to bring her life to the stage. The musical will feature some of her hits as well as new music.</p>
<p id=”par-5_61″>“This isn’t about a story about sparkle and shine on the outside,” Parton said in an Instagram video. “It’s about where I really come from: where I’ve lived, what I’ve lost, what I’ve loved and how I’ve found my way and told it in my own words and through the music that’s been part of me every step of the journey.”</p>
<p id=”par-6_17″>She described the musical as a “dream come true.” It will open at the St. James Theater.</p>

<p id=”par-8_39″>“I’ve never seen a Broadway play,” she said in an interview with Playboy (per the book <em>Dolly on Dolly</em>), adding, “I’ve <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/dolly-parton-worried-seem-hillbilly-fool-gaffe-opera.html/”>never been to an opera</a>. I’ve never seen a live stage performance. I guess I’m not very classy.”</p>
