Atlanta Braves Announce Roster Decision on 4-Year MLB Player, Select Former Yankees Pitcher

The Atlanta Braves are 12-7 through their first 19 games, and have been somewhat of a surprising team in Major League Baseball to start the season.

On Thursday morning, after Atlanta’s series win over the Miami Marlins, the team announced that it is designating Osvaldo Bido for assignment and selecting the contract of former Yankees pitcher Ian Hamilton. Lefty Hayden Harris has also been optioned back to Triple-A in order to make room on the roster for Martin Perez, who was DFA’d a couple of days ago, but also signed back with the Braves on a minor league deal, and will start for Atlanta on Friday against the Phillies.

Osvaldo Bido is a four-year MLB veteran pitcher, but carries a 6.30 ERA this season over 10 innings.

Atlanta Braves Select Ian Hamilton

Ian Hamilton has pitched in parts of six MLB seasons. In 2025 with the New York Yankees, he posted a 4.28 ERA over 40 innings. In 135.2 total innings with the Yankees, Hamilton’s ERA was 3.45. He could be a serviceable reliever for the Braves. He’s yet to pitch in MLB in 2026, and Atlanta signed him to a minor league deal in the offseason.

As for the DFA of Bido, one could have seen that coming, as the 30-year-old right-hander struggles with command. He walked five batters in his 10 innings pitched so far this season. He’s also just the odd man out in the bullpen once Atlanta decided to bring back Martin Perez.

The Atlanta Braves are off to a fast start this season, and with the team’s series win over the Marlins this week, Atlanta is still the only team in MLB that has yet to lose a series.

The next three series for Atlanta will include a weekend trip to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies, and then the Braves head to the nation’s capital for a four-game set with the Washington Nationals.

After that, Atlanta will return home to take on the Phillies again, so that’s four straight division series for the Braves to round out the month of April.
