Over half of MLB teams suffered the loss of their television broadcasting this season due to the collapse of Diamond Sports (FanDuel Sports Networks). The Atlanta Braves were one of those teams. However, they pivoted by creating their own direct-to-consumer platform, BravesVision.
For Braves fans, the transition has been mostly welcomed. Instead of relying on traditional cable packages, fans can now purchase access monthly or annually at their discretion. The service is strictly catered to everything Braves, offering a more direct and team-focused viewing experience.
It also means fans are getting every moment — even the ones they probably weren’t expecting.
That included the intense brawl that broke out between the Braves and Los Angeles Angels in Game 2 of the series, sparked by Jorge Soler and Reynaldo López.
But in the Braves’ 7-2 win over the Angels on April 7, it wasn’t the fight that had people talking most.
It was something a bit more… unexpected involving Ronald Acuña Jr.
BravesVision Cameras Catch Awkward Ronald Acuña Jr. Moment
By the eighth inning, the Braves were looking to add some insurance runs to their 4-2 lead. That’s where Ozzie Albies delivered, launching a home run to right-center to make it 5-2.
As expected, BravesVision cameras followed Albies into the dugout to capture the celebration with his teammates.
However, that’s not all the cameras picked up — and not intentionally.
As Albies made his way through the dugout, Acuña briefly appeared in the background with his uniform pants down, seemingly adjusting his equipment in the middle of the celebration.
“And Ronald has his pants down in the background,” Braves play-by-play announcer Brandon Gaudin said. “Sorry, folks. Live television.”
The moment was quick and harmless. Acuña was fully covered, and nothing inappropriate was shown.
Still, it was enough to create a lighthearted and somewhat hilarious moment, especially with Gaudin’s perfectly timed acknowledgment of what viewers just saw.
It also serves as a reminder of the tradeoff that comes with a more immersive, in-house broadcast — sometimes, the cameras catch everything.
Braves Look to Build Momentum as Ronald Acuña Jr. Searches for Rhythm
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Atlanta, pushing them to 7-5 on the season.
They have one more game remaining in the series against the Angels before an off day on April 9. From there, the Braves return home to Truist Park to begin a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians on April 10, with the first two games broadcast on BravesVision.
As for Acuña, the spotlight wasn’t just on that brief dugout moment.
He’s also looking to find his footing at the plate.
Through the Braves’ first 12 games, Acuña is slashing .178/.283/.200 with no home runs, two RBI, seven walks and 10 strikeouts. He’s also recorded just two stolen bases while being caught twice.
It’s an uncharacteristically slow start for one of the game’s most dynamic players, and one the Braves will need to see turn around sooner rather than later.
Perhaps Albies can help lead the way.
Albies has been one of the team’s most consistent hitters early on, slashing .277/.333/.468 with three home runs, four RBI, four walks and nine strikeouts.
If the Braves are going to build momentum heading into the heart of April, getting Acuña back on track will be just as important as the wins themselves.
And if nothing else, BravesVision is making sure fans won’t miss a second of it — even the unexpected ones.
