Stephen Curry ‘Absolutely’ Open to Warriors Trade for LeBron James or Kawhi Leonard

It’s seemingly with every Golden State Warriors loss that the swirl around the franchise needing to a make blockbuster move intensifies.

The Warriors saw their three-game winning streak snapped in last night’s loss in Denver to the Nuggets.

Golden State built a comfortable double-digit lead but was unable to keep its foot on the gas. Sunday’s loss marked the team’s 39th of the season.

Many Warriors fans conceded hope on the season the night star swingman Jimmy Butler went down, even though the Dubs are still fully guaranteed a shot at playing a first round playoff series.

But with how the season has gone, with numerous injuries to note, there is understandably minimal optimism for the rest of the year. But that’s not to say the Warriors faithful aren’t expecting something major to happen this offseason.

Oh, and maybe star point guard Stephen Curry is in that same boat.

Curry has been out an entire two months with knee trouble and has little runway left to make a return and shake off the rust before the play-in tilt. While he’s ever the competitor, perhaps even the two-time MVP realizes inside that he’s better off putting his marbles into next season when he’ll be fully healthy and ready to make another push.

Golden State Warriors star would reportedly welcome a summer splash

Much has been said about Curry’s Warriors since they nabbed the Larry O’Brien Trophy four years ago.

The majority opinion suggests Curry isn’t in a position to compete for championship as things currently stand. So something will have to change.

Either Curry goes, or Golden State grants him a wish. And it’ll need to execute some front office magic to truly satisfy that wish.

Curry, 38, understands his time is unquestionably now. And it’s running out with each passing day. Help is needed immediately.

Golden State has been rumored several times in recent years as a team in the play for a major superstar, most notably LeBron James. The franchise also reportedly was aggressive in attempting to grab Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks ahead of the trade deadline in February.

At some point, the Warriors have to succeed in their efforts right?

After all, it’ll perhaps make Curry the happiest. According to Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard, Curry would be more than open to the team acquiring a marquee superstar this summer.

“Obviously, any short-term, non-max deal with [L.A. Clipper star Kawhi] Leonard would have to pass the strictest scrutiny in sports history. No funny business this time. But if Kawhi really would take $15 million as a starting salary, the Warriors would certainly have a shot. If he came to the Warriors and they kept [Kristaps] Porzingis and Draymond [Green], the lineup would look something like: Curry and [Brandin] Podziemski in the back court, Kawhi and Draymond at forward, Porzingis at center. … Is that a championship-level rotation? It’d be the closest the Warriors could come without mortgaging every part of their future, and I think Curry would absolutely sign off on all of this,” Kawakami wrote.

Is this a do-or-die summer for the Warriors?

It very well could be.

Golden State is in an awkward spot. It has an old roster with just a couple of players who appear to be future pieces.

Curry is the team’s best player and probably won’t be around another five years. Butler, Curry’s co-star, is 36 years old and will be coming off major knee surgery when he returns. And there is no guarantee he’ll be back in the 2026-27 campaign.

So where does that leave Curry?

An aging-but-elite player who is getting ready to finish his 17th season on a mediocre team with no clear direction for the future. Getting a James, Leonard or someone of that ilk enhances Golden State’s chances to win more games now, but how does the team work out a deal that doesn’t mortgage all of the truly little it has already?

The names being linked to the Warriors aren’t young guys. Heck, James is the oldest player in the league — and still mightily expensive.

The bottom line is Golden State has to make something happen. Perhaps no one — not even the team’s front office — knows how. Warriors executives have a tricky summer ahead.

This could be the final summer before Curry’s patience dissolves.
