Investigators caught up to Joe Washington Jr., 18, and Money Green, 20, both of Richmond, at an undisclosed location in Sacramento with the help of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, according to a statement from Pleasant Hill police released Friday. Police said they’d put out an arrest warrant for both of them.

Both are homicide suspects in the deaths of Peter Popovich, 63, of Pleasant Hill and Trevon Davis, 21, of San Pablo, on March 19, police said. Authorities did not specify what charges they are seeking from the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

The two were in custody Friday afternoon at the Martinez Detention Facility and being held without bail, according to jail records.

Popovich was shot just before noon on Twinbridge Circle during what police said was a robbery targeting him. Police said Popovich worked for a company that sells packaging materials for the legal sale of cannabis and had been delivering those materials to distributors earlier in the day.

According to police, Davis and at least one other person approached Popovich as he stood near his van. Popovich also was armed and had a permit to carry a concealed weapon, police said. The confrontation led to gunfire.

Police did not specify whether they believe Green or Washington also approached Popovich.

When officers arrived, Popovich and Davis had been wounded by gunfire. The other suspect who approached Popovich fled, as did another person, in a speeding car, police said.

Both were treated at the scene and rushed to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, where they died. Davis died hours after Popovich did.

Police said they continue to talk with witnesses about the shooting and that they are still gathering evidence.
