Tree falls and hits two Teslas on Highway 101 in South Bay

SUNNYVALE — A 40-foot-tall tree toppled onto Highway 101 in Sunnyvale and hit a pair of Teslas early Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The incident happened shortly before 12:15 p.m. in the northbound direction just south of Fair Oaks Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Ross Lee.

Lee said one of the drivers was able to pull onto the shoulder, but the other car was not drivable.

One of the drivers was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, according to Lee.

The tree blocked three lanes of the freeway, which did not reopen until about 2:20 p.m.
