Stanford Cardinal star Cameron Brink declares for 2024 WNBA Draft

Stanford star Cameron Brink is headed for the WNBA draft after the Cardinal’s run in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, the senior announced on social media Tuesday.

Brink, who had a year of eligibility remaining, said on Instagram that “Although I am excited for that next chapter, we still have unfinished business and so much to accomplish in my final season at Stanford.”

The Cardinal (28-5) is ranked No. 4 in the nation and almost certainly will be a No. 1 seed when the NCAA Tournament bracket is revealed on Sunday.

Brink, who recently was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year for the second time in three seasons, could go as high as the No. 2 overall pick in the WNBA draft behind Iowa’s Caitlin Clark. The Los Angeles Sparks hold the No. 2 pick, and are looking to replace another former Stanford frontcourt star, Nneka Ogwumike, who left as a free agents over the winter.

The Beaverton, Oregon, native is considered one of the top defensive players in the nation but is hardly a one-dimensional player. She is the only player in Division I to average 15 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks per game this season. Her 17.9 point per game are fourth-best in the Pac-12 this season.

The only other players in the history of the Pac-12 to win Player and Defensive Player of the Year awards in the same season are former Stanford star Chiney Ogwumike (2013, 2014) and Arizona’s Aari McDonald (2021).

In her post, Brink thanks the Stanford and Palo Alto communities, head coach Tara VanDerveer and the Cardinals staff, her friends and family.

“My four years at Stanford have been nothing short of life changing.,” Brink wrote, adding, “I am beyond lucky to be surrounded by so many special people.”

Brink concluded her message by writing, “Lastly, to all the young girls out there, thank you for all your support. I believe in all of you like you’ve believed in me. Most importantly, you are loved. You got this!”
