Authorities had been called 5 times this year to California home where 15-year-old boy was fatally shot by deputies

A man called 911 about 7:51 a.m. Wednesday to report that his mother shot him in their apartment on the 2500 block of Francisco Boulevard, according to a Pacifica Police Department press release.

When officers arrived, the man’s mother was driving away from the scene. Police intercepted her, but she aimed a firearm at the officers, authorities said.

Police then shot the woman. The police department’s statement didn’t specify how many officers were involved in the shooting, how many times they fired or how many times the woman was struck.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was in stable condition at the hospital, according to authorities.

In compliance with standard protocol when a police officer shoots a person, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office will conduct an independent investigation on the incident.
