Pittsburg woman arrested in 2022 Oakland fatal crash

OAKLAND — A 34-year-old Pittsburg woman has been charged with killing a San Francisco man in a 2022 collision in North Oakland, court records show.

Danniqua Tims was charged with felony vehicular manslaughter involving gross negligence and leaving the scene of an accident. Though she was arrested and released after the Aug. 25, 2022 crash, Tims was not charged until late last month, court records show.

Tims posted $90,000 through a bail bonds company after her 2022 arrest and remains out of custody based on that transaction, according to court records. She had her first court appearance on Feb. 16 but did not enter a plea.

According to Oakland police, Tims was speeding through West MacArthur Boulevard and ran a red light at Piedmont Avenue before colliding with 35-year-old Andrew Tonken, who was crossing the street. Tims kept going, but police were able to quickly track down her vehicle and arrest her, police said at the time.

In a subsequent interview with investigators, Tims admitted to continuing to drive after the collision but said she pulled over after “only” half a block, investigators said in court papers. She also reportedly claimed Tonken was outside the crosswalk at the time of the collision.

After the charges were filed, Tims was not re-arrested, but rather notified of the filing via mail, according to court records.
