Oakland police ID man killed one day before his 23rd birthday

OAKLAND — Police here have identified a man who was shot and killed outside his home, just one day before his 23rd birthday.

Anthony Kimmins Jr., 22, of Oakland, was shot and killed at 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 22, near his home on the 2000 block of Myrtle Street. Police said at the time that he was shot outside, and died before he could be taken to a hospital.

Police haven’t announced any arrests, named any suspects, nor said if they’ve uncovered the motive. His death was Oakland’s eight homicide of 2024.

Kimmins’ family members gathered and held a balloon release to honor him on his birthday, according to social media posts.
