Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of E. 18th Street about 5:22 a.m. at the request of the Contra Costa Fire Protection District. Crews from that agency were dispatched for a medical emergency and found the man, Antioch police Lt. Matthew Koch said in a statement.

Police said they are investigating the death as a homicide. They have investigated four homicides in 2024.

Authorities did not identify the man publicly, pending the notification of next of kin.

Koch said the killing appears to be isolated and that there was no threat to public safety later Wednesday morning.
