A newly-hired Daly City police officer was arrested after prosecutors allege he slapped his 4-year-old daughter on the face on multiple occasions over the past year, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Jacob Fine, 38, faces two counts of misdemeanor child abuse after prosecutors say his daughter showed up to preschool with visible marks on her face, allegedly from being hit, the district attorney’s office said. The girl also claimed that Fine did the same thing in May 2023, prosecutors alleged.
Fine also faces a felony weapons charge after authorities said they found a Daniels Defense DDM4 assault-style rifle in his home, which had been illegally modified and included a laser on it. The rifle was allegedly found when authorities came to Fine’s house to serve an emergency protective order.
Fine had recently been hired by the Daly City Police Department when the allegations surfaced. His police officer certification is now listed as being suspended on the website of California’s Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
The Daly City Police Department issued a press release Friday saying that Fine was “not currently employed” as a Daly City officer, and that “he has never had contact with the public in a Daly City police officer capacity.” Messages by the Bay Area News Group to the department seeking clarification on Fine’s job responsibilities, as well as the date that his employment ended, were not immediately returned Friday afternoon.
