OAKLAND — A driver on a Bay Area freeway told the California Highway Patrol somebody fired shots at the vehicle early Thursday, the agency said.
The gunfire hit the vehicle but did not injure the driver, according to a statement from the CHP.

Officers responded about 1:40 a.m. to a call reporting the shooting and said they contacted the victim in the parking lot of the CHP’s Oakland office in the 3600 block of Telegraph Avenue. The CHP said the officers found that the right front tire and trunk of the vehicle had been hit by bullets.
The driver was on westbound Interstate 980 at the 11th Street exit when the shooting happened, the CHP said. The driver noticed a vehicle pull up behind, then felt an impact to the rear of the vehicle and stopped, the CHP said.
The suspect vehicle then pulled up alongside of it and fired approximately four shots, according to the CHP. It then fled the scene.
The CHP is looking for the public’s help to find the suspect and the vehicle that person drove. They asked anyone with information to contact their Oakland office at 510-457-2875.
