Brunch and Thai cuisine are available under one roof at a new Clayton restaurant

Clayton’s new Skylar Bistro, a Thai and brunch restaurant, just held its grand opening, a decade after owner Jureerat Bunteesud moved here from Thailand.

Thai food plus brunch might seem an unusual pairing, but the Walnut Creek resident was inspired after noticing there weren’t a lot of breakfast options in town. Breakfast and brunch items are available earlier in the day, and Thai dishes are generally served at dinnertime, she says.

On the brunch side, specials include items such as Loco Moco ($21), a beef patty served with gravy, rice, a fried egg and mushrooms, and the Croque Madame ($21), an egg and ham sandwich with gruyere and truffle cheese sauce served on sourdough bread. There are also Thai tea waffles ($17) made with a housemade Thai tea sauce. The dinner menu includes pumpkin curry  ($18), crab fried rice ($24) and Laotian sausage ($12), a pork sausage served with mint, cilantro, ginger, cucumber and chiles.

Details: Open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 9 p.m. on weekdays, and 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4 to 9 p.m. weekends at 6101 Center St. in Clayton; skylarbistro.com.
