HAYWARD – A 38-year-old Hayward man has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting another man whose body went undiscovered for days, according to authorities.

The shooting happened in the early evening hours of April 26 near San Antonio and Hayman streets, the Hayward Police Department said in a news release Friday.
Witnesses told authorities the shooting stemmed from an argument, but they did not initially call 911 or police despite believing the victim had died, according to police.
The shooting was reported to police two days later. Although officers found evidence of a shooting, they did not find any victims at the scene or area hospitals, police said.
Police went on to identify a person of interest in the case and discovered he had warrants for his arrest.
On April 30, officers found the man riding an all-terrain vehicle near Tennyson Road and Leidig Court. He fled from the officers and barricaded himself inside the garage of an occupied home in the 29000 block of Chance Street, according to police.
Two residents managed to exit the home as officers arrived at the scene, police said. Officers eventually coaxed the man out of the garage and took him into custody.
Later that same day, officers found a body with apparent gunshot wounds near the scene of the shooting. It had been concealed with dirt and debris, according to police.
“It is believed the man had been deceased for several days,” police said in the news release.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau will release the man’s identity once it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
The death marked the city’s fourth homicide of the year.
The suspect – identified as Andres Sanchez, 38, of Hayward – was booked into county jail on charges of murder, home-invasion robbery and evasion, as well as the warrants.
