ANTIOCH — Citing “repeated dangerous incidents,” the Contra Costa County Library announced Friday it is shutting down the Antioch Library until further notice.

The closure is set to begin Saturday, according to a statement posted to the county library’s website.
“The Contra Costa County Library has made this difficult decision after repeated dangerous incidents in the last few months that have threatened the safety and security of patrons and staff,” the statement said. “We apologize for the short notice and the inconvenience but the safety of our patrons and staff is a top priority.”
The county library indicated it will reopen the Antioch Library once additional security measures are in place.
“These will take some time to complete, and we do not have an estimated date for reopening,” the statement said.
The book drop at the Antioch Library will also be closed. Patrons can return books to any other Contra Costa County library or hold onto them until the Antioch Library reopens.
