The Houston Texans signed standout defensive end Will Anderson Jr. to a historic three-year, $150 million contract extension. It got the NFL world buzzing, including Texans legend J.J. Watt.
Anderson’s agent, power broker Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports, offered fitting comments on the major development.
The Texans also commemorated the moment.

Anderson received $134 million in guaranteed money, with $100 million of it fully guaranteed and a $32 million signing bonus.
“Earned. Deserved. [rock on/hand making horns emoji],” Watt posted on X on April 17.
Lynn, who also represents a host of other NFL stars like Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, posted, “Anybody have a brinks truck?” on X on April 17 after securing the deal between Anderson and the Texans, adding in a follow-up quoted post, “Found one!”
Watt, the Texans’ all-time sacks leader, responded to a question from a fan about how he would feel if Anderson was one day considered better than he was.
Watt was the 11th overall pick in 2011. He was a five-time Pro Bowler, five-time First Team All-Pro, and three-time Defensive Player of the Year during a 12-season career. Anderson is a two-time Pro Bowler, a one-time First Team All-Pro, and was the Defensive Rookie of the Year.
There is no ill will from the current Texans icon to a potential future one.
“I would be extremely happy for him and grateful I got to witness it,” Watt said. “It would be very naive and narcissistic of me to think that nobody should or could ever be better. The sport is constantly evolving and athletes continue to reset the limits of what we believe to be possible. It would be thoroughly disappointing if new heights were never achieved.
“I love the game, I love the pursuit of greatness and I hope to witness many more incredible examples of it in my lifetime.”
JJ Watt Praised Will Anderson Jr.

Watt has been highly complimentary of Anderson in the past, with the latter leaning on the former as a resource.
Watt noted that, in his opinion, the “best part about Will is that he understands his potential.”
“He wants to do everything possible to achieve it, and not everybody has both of those things together. Some people don’t understand how great they could be, and other people aren’t willing to work hard enough to accomplish it. Will has both,” Watt told reporters in June 2025.
“It’s been really fun to watch him grow and progress because he is willing to put in all that work, and he is willing to make the sacrifices, and he’s reaping the rewards because of it.”
Texans are Pace Setters

The Texans have shown that they are proactive in securing their top players as soon as possible. Anderson is no exception. However, they also broke the mold in the draft last offseason.
“Houston aggressive with stars,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler posted on X in reaction, citing their extension for Derek Stingley that was done in March 2025. “Texans unafraid of high guarantee %. Wasn’t lost on some in league that HOU first team to provide fully guaranteed rookie contract to 2nd rd pick (Jayden Higgins).”
Higgins and former Iowa State teammate Jaylin Noel became one of the few tandems at the same position, drafted to the same team in the same class in NFL history.
The Texans’ decision to extend Anderson was par for the course.
