Giants Attend Workout for Polarizing WR Prospect Rumored to be in Play at No. 5

The 2026 NFL Draft is less than a week away, and almost the entire league, including the New York Giants, is putting the finishing touches on its draft boards.

One of the more polarizing figures heading into next Thursday’s first round is Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson. He projects to be an explosive playmaker, but injuries have hampered his draft stock.

So much so that Tyson hosted a personal workout on Friday afternoon in an attempt to prove to NFL decision-makers that he’s fully healthy, and the Giants were in fact in attendance.

Are the Giants that intrigued by Tyson that they would invest their first-round pick in him? One NFL insider says it’s a possibility.

Peter Schrager Says Giants Could Draft Jordyn Tyson at No. 5

Clearly, the New York Giants have some interest in the Arizona State wideout; otherwise, they wouldn’t have shown up to his individual workout.

But would they use the No. 5 pick in the draft on him? Especially with the concerns surrounding his injury history? ESPN’s Peter Schrager says yes, they would.

“If Jordyn Tyson has a clean workout on April 17th in front of NFL personnel, I would not be shocked if he went fifth overall to the New York Giants. There are a lot of different options, but this guy is a true No. 1. And the only question, the only question is his health and his availability,” Schrager told Jordan Raanan on the Breaking Big Blue podcast.

Bulls need to prioritize what matters most and recent history shows why

“But if you’re talking about a home run pick at a value position, it’s not at running back, it’s not at safety, and it’s not at off-the-ball linebacker. It’s wide receiver. So if he gets a clean bill of health and everyone likes what they see, top five is not crazy to me.”

Where Tyson will end up being selected varies depending on which draft experts you ask. Some say his talent belongs in the top 10, while others say his injury concerns could push him to the end of the first round.

Despite his explosive production, Tyson has dealt with several serious injuries throughout his collegiate career, including a torn ACL/MCL/PCL in 2022, a fractured collarbone in 2024, and hamstring injuries in 2025.

The hamstring forced him to miss the on-field portion of the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine.

Giants Do Need Depth at Wide Receiver

When addressing the New York Giants’ biggest needs entering the 2026 NFL Draft, wide receiver isn’t typically noted as one of the most glaring.

Sure, they lost Wan’Dale Robinson in free agency, but they replaced him in the aggregate with Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin.

Malik Nabers is a star, but the concern with the former first-round pick is that he may not be ready for Week 1 of the regular season, let alone the offseason program.

Adding Tyson in the mix with the No. 5 overall pick could prove to be a massive help for second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart, and once Nabers is healthy, give the Giants an elite one-two punch at wide receiver.

Drafting Tyson would be a risk for New York; that much is clear. He’s arguably the biggest boom-or-bust prospect in the entire class.

But that boom could be enormous, giving the Giants a dominant receiver for years to come.
