The Seattle Seahawks‘ season may have come as a surprise to some, but don’t count head coach Mike Macdonald as part of this group. Days before the Seahawks take on the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship, the team released footage from Macdonald’s first team meeting after being hired in 2024.
Macdonald asked the team to imagine playing in the NFC Championship, and the clip is going viral given the coach’s confidence. The Seahawks coach was one year late with his prediction, but no one can fault Macdonald for being one game away from the Super Bowl in just his second season in the Pacific Northwest.
“One of the things I want you guys to feel going through this program is that we have a vision for you in this football team,” Macdonald said at the time. “But today, all right, I’m going to take you here now, so stay with me. I want us to just take a minute here and fast forward to January (in the) NFC Championship.
“It’s 30-something degrees, all right, it’s wet, it’s windy. All right, it’s (expletive) for them, okay, but it’s just right for us. We’re loose. We’re focused. We’re confident. We just spent the last nine months stacking every opportunity that we had to put us in that position,” Macdonald continued.
“The team across from us in the other locker room, okay, they’ve seen the tape. They know what they’re in for. Eleven guys playing as one every snap. They know that we’re like that.”
Here’s a look at the viral clip that has Seahawks fans buzzing.
Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald on NFC Championship Prediction: ‘I Was Trying to Portray to the Guys the Feeling of What We’re Trying to Create’
Macdonald’s message has Seahawks fans fired up, and few teams know Seattle is “like that” quite like the Rams. It is fitting that if the Seahawks reach the Super Bowl, it will be after two wins over NFC West teams in the Rams and San Francisco 49ers.
After the footage was released, Macdonald was asked for his mindset when he offered the NFC Championship prediction.
“I think the goal of what I was trying to portray to the guys was the feeling of what we’re trying to create, that it is about us, and it’s about our connectedness, and it’s about what we’re striving to become as a football team, you know?” Macdonald told reporters on January 22. “The NFC Championship was really just context of where we could go.
“Of course, there’s more goals to be had, but that was really the thought behind it. Yeah, I think it’s that simple, but it’s good to have visualization. I think that’s a powerful tool, and I’m glad it worked, if it did.”
Rams vs. Seahawks Weather Forecast: The Temperature Is Expected To Be in the 40s at Kickoff
For those wondering, Macdonald may not get quite the miserable weather he predicted. Temperature at kickoff is expected to be about 43 degrees as a winter storm will impact much of the United States this weekend.
The Rams and Seahawks split their two regular-season matchups this season. Seattle is a 2.5-point favorite over Los Angeles in the NFC Championship, per FanDuel.
