New York Mets Named Top Landing Spot for Former Blue Jays DH

The 2026 season has been a complete disaster for the New York Mets. At the time of this writing, they currently have a 10-20 record and are at the bottom of the National League East. They have also only won three out of their last 10 games and lost their most recent game to the Washington Nationals by a 14-2 final score.

With how this season has been going for the Mets early on, it is clear that they should be looking to make some new additions to their roster immediately. The clock is ticking for them to turn their season around, as they are now 11.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves for the first-place spot in the NL East standings.

With the Mets struggling, they are now being linked to an interesting DH who was recently designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays.

New York Mets Named Potential Fit for Former Blue Jays DH Eloy Jimenez

In a recent article for Sports Illustrated, Patrick McAvoy looked at two potential landing spots for Eloy Jimenez after he was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays. The Mets were the first team mentioned, and it makes sense when noting that they need more offense.

“If the Mets are looking for someone to come in and at least have the potential to add more firepower to the club, even off the bench, Jiménez is just 29 years old and could help. Again, he was hitting .290 in the majors before being DFA’d on Wednesday. That in itself would be positive for New York,” McAvoy wrote.

When looking at the Mets’ current situation, there would really be no harm in them taking a chance on a player like Jimenez. He would provide them with another solid batter with experience to work with and could give their lineup a bit of a boost in the process.

Jimenez was performing well with the Blue Jays before being designated for assignment, as he had three RBIs, nine hits, and a .290 batting average in 12 games. He has also shown in the past that he can provide some power at the plate, as evidenced by his 31-home run rookie season in 2019 with the Chicago White Sox. He also hit 18 home runs for the White Sox just back in 2023.

Overall, with the Mets needing more offense, Jimenez could be a low-risk, high-reward player for them to bring in. Thus, he could make sense for the Mets to take a chance on.

The Mets Are Due for a Move Right Now

With the Mets continuing to struggle in a major way, it is clear that they need to make a move as soon as possible. Whether it is Jimenez or another hitter, the Mets need to bring in more options for their offense. Their season is slipping away quickly, and they are still having trouble heating up.

It will be interesting to see if the Mets end up bringing in Jimenez from here, but the fit looks pretty good on paper.
