Mike Vrabel Reportedly Consulted Patriots Legend Ahead of Super Bowl LX

The New England Patriots are back in the Super Bowl, but this team looks nothing like the teams that dominated earlier this century. Gone are franchise legends such as Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, with a new quarterback/head coach tandem in Drake Maye and Mike Vrabel leading the way this time around.

While the faces making up the team are different, it’s been clear with all the former players stepping up and voicing their support of the team ahead of the Super Bowl that the “Foxboro Forever” mantra is alive and well. The latest, and perhaps most important, example of that involved a surprising move that saw Vrabel reach out to Belichick and ask for some advice on preparing his team for the big game.

While Belichick is widely believed to be the greatest coach in NFL history, his relationship with the Patriots, particularly team owner Robert Kraft, is strained. Belichick hasn’t appeared to be particularly happy with how he’s been portrayed since departing the team after the 2023 campaign, and things boiled over when he prevented New England’s scouting department from entering the North Carolina Tar Heels’ football facility this season.

Vrabel publicly stepped in and attempted to diffuse the situation, but he seemed to side with Kraft in this ongoing beef. Given the fact that he works for the Pats, that isn’t all that surprising. Regardless, the point of all of this is to illustrate that the relationship between Belichick and New England has certainly seen better days.

And yet, even he is willing to help out his former team now that it has found itself back in the Super Bowl. According to NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Vrabel reached out to Belichick and Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, as he looked to receive some advice from both guys on what to expect in his first Super Bowl as an NFL head coach.

“While Belichick didn’t get football’s ultimate honor, he is helping the 2025 Coach of the Year,” Russini reported. “New England’s Vrabel reached out to Belichick and fellow Super Bowl-winning coach Andy Reid, tapping into their experience as he gets ready for the big game. Vrabel, of course, has been to the Super Bowl four times as a player, but never as a head coach.”

The Patriots raised eyebrows when they swiftly moved on from first-year head coach Jerod Mayo shortly after the conclusion of the 2024 campaign, but the move to replace him with Vrabel has been another master stroke by Kraft. Vrabel has led a stunning turnaround in New England that could officially be completed with a win over the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl.

There’s no doubt, though, that this is going to be the Pats’ most difficult game of the season, and if they intend to hoist the Lombardi Trophy, they are going to have to play their best game of the year. Vrabel has done everything possible to get his team and himself ready for this one, with the hope being that it will lead to New England prevailing over Seattle in the Super Bowl once again.
