Azzi Fudd’s parents, Tim and Katie Fudd, are regulars at UConn games, cheering on one of the biggest stars in college basketball. The UConn standout is expected to enter the 2026 WNBA draft but is focused on attempting to lead the Huskies to another national championship.
Azzi leans on her family, which includes three brothers: Jose, Jon and Thomas. The Fudd family is full of athletes as both her mom, Katie and dad, Tim, are former college basketball players.
Katie was also selected in the 2001 WNBA draft, an achievement Azzi is expected to also reach soon.

1. Azzi Fudd on Blended Family: ‘Something I Love About the Way We Look’
Azzi loves the diversity that her family represents. For example, Azzi discussed how her mom, Katie, is white with red hair while her adopted dad, Tim is Black.
“Her mother, Katie, is red-haired and white. Her adoptive father, Tim, is a tall Black man,” ESPN’s Sam Borden wrote in a March 24, 2026, story titled, “UConn star Azzi Fudd and the family behind her final March.”
“Her brothers, Jon and Jose, who were once foster children of Tim’s mother, trace their roots to Guatemala and have brown skin.”
Azzi admits that her blended family can sometimes create confusion at basketball games. The UConn star loves the diversity her family represents.
“I mean, all of us look like we come from a different family,” Azzi told ESPN. “”But that’s something I love about the way we look.”
2. Azzi Fudd Has Called Her Adopted Father, Tim Fudd, ‘Dad’ Since She Was 2 Years Old
Tim may be Azzi’s adopted father, but the UConn star considers him her dad. Azzi first called Tim “dad” when she was two years old, per ESPN’s Katie Barnes. There is little public details available about Azzi’s biological father.
“The first time Azzi called Tim ‘Dad’ was a little before her second birthday,” Barnes detailed in a March 29, 2022, article titled, “Azzi Fudd Is Unbreakable.” “He had met Katie when Azzi was a year and a half or so.
“He had taken them out to dinner for his first date with Katie, and Azzi had been toddling about on a ledge by the window where they were seated. Sometimes she would reach out and tap him on the shoulder.”
3. After a Standout Career at Georgetown, Azzi Fudd’s Mom, Katie Fudd, Was Selected in the 2001 WNBA Draft
Azzi is expected to be one of the first players selected in the 2026 WNBA draft, but she will not be the first person in her family to turn pro. Katie was selected in the fourth round of the 2001 WNBA draft by the Sacramento Monarchs with the No. 62 overall pick.
Azzi’s mom was recently honored by Georgetown for her standout college basketball career. Katie was a 3-time All-Big East member and named the ACC Rookie of the Year during her freshman season at NC State before transferring to Georgetown.
“No, there’s absolutely no comparison between Azzi and her mom,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma told CT Insider’s Roger Cleaveland during a March 7, feature titled, “Azzi Fudd’s mom honored as Big East Legend in front of her star daughter at Mohegan Sun.” “Katie was more like Shea. She was more like Shea Ralph.
“There’s some battles there that, you know, we had because she was a relentless competitor, tough, hardnosed. Azzi is a little bit different. She has a different approach to the game. But, you know, maybe the same competitiveness for sure, but their games are way different.”

The Fudd’s blended family means that Azzi has three brothers: Jon, Jose and Thomas. Azzi’s brothers, Jon and Jose, were once foster children of Tim’s mother and have Guatemalan roots, per ESPN.
The UConn star also has an older brother named Thomas. Azzi has fond memories of growing up alongside Jon and Jose.
“I remember I got my first American Girl doll,” Azzi told Borden. “Felicity — a redhead, just like my mom — so it was perfect. It snowed a little.
“I think it was [Jon and Jose’s] first time seeing snow. So we built this really sad snowman in the front yard.”
5. Azzi Fudd’s Dad, Tim Fudd, Is a Former Standout College Basketball Player & Coach
Azzi’s dad, Tim, has experience as both a college basketball player and coach. According to People.com, Tim has coached at Longwood University, St. John’s College High School and several AAU programs.
Tim was a standout player at American University, leading the CAA in scoring at 20 points per game during the 1993-94 season. Azzi’s father was also named to the All-CAA team during the same season.
