Gurugram, 17th March (IANS) Gaurika Bishnoi ousted Tvesa Malik in a close title fight on the final day of stage six of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour (WPGT) at the Classic Golf and Country Club here on Friday.
The duo turned brilliant bogey-free laps. Gaurika played 4-under 68 in the final round and Tvesa shot 3-under 69. After 54 holes, they were tied at 6-under 210, resulting in a play-off that lasted three more holes.
There were some amazing results in the final as seven players played rounds under par and three more rounds played par. The top seven had below-average totals.
Gaurika won the playoff on the third extra hole when she screwed it while Tvesa only managed a par. Previously, both played the first playoff hole on the 10th and saved the next on the 17th. In the third playoff hole on the 18th, Gaurika shagged again and made up for missing the previous leg by finishing second to Sneha Singh.
Gaurika became the fifth different winner in the six events held to date.
As the final day began, Amandeep Drall led with 7-under and played in the lead group with Tvesa and Vani Kapoor, who were four strokes behind at 3-under 141. Gaurika Bishnoi with 2-under for 36 holes was in the second group.
Gaurika played a stable final round with two birdies on the back nines on the first and eighth holes. She added a third on the 13th and ended the game with a birdie on the 18th to reach the 6-210 clubhouse goal.
Vani Kapoor shagged the second but a double bogey on the ninth spoiled their chances. She fought back with three birdies in four holes between 12th and 15th, but with pars on the last three holes, she finished a shot short of Gaurika’s target.
Tvesa, playing in the lead group, parried her first 12 holes and missed a few birdie opportunities. She then landed 13th and 14th consecutive birdies to get back into the competition. Three more pars on the 15th, 16th and 17th meant Tvesa was still adrift when she reached the 18th green where Gaurika had just holed a final birdie to take the lead.
Tvesa smashed her second shot into thick grass on the 18th but produced an excellent third shot under pressure to land four feet from the pin and potted it to force a tie.
Amandeep twice bogeyed against a birdie on the front nine, but was still ahead on the turn. However, she had a very rough day on the back nine, making a bogey on the 10th and 11th and having three more bogeys on the 15th and 17th. Not even an eagle on the 18th could save her as she finished 4-under 212 after a final round of 75.
Amandeep finished fourth with Neha Tripathi (66), while Vani Kapoor was sole third with 5-under-211.
Although the top two finishers, Gaurika and Tvesa, made bogey-free attempts and exciting golf, the best round of the day came from Neha Tripathi, who had three birdies on either side of the course for a bogey-free 66.
Hitaashee Bakshi (72) was sixth with 2 under 214 while Asmitha Sathish (68) was seventh with 1 under 215. Seher Atwal (72) finished eighth with a straight par 216.
Amateurs Nishna Patel (70) and Anvvi Dahhiya (72) finished ninth and tenth. Sneha Singh, who shot 1 under 71 and placed 12th, continues to lead the Hero Order of Merit while Seher Atwal is second.
The seventh leg of the Hero WPG Tour takes place next week at the DLF Golf and Country Club.
