The U.S. women’s national team will face Colombia on Sunday at BMO Stadium in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF W Gold Cup. The pairings were finalized Wednesday night.
At the conclusion of group play, the top two teams in each of the three groups and the next two third-place finishers were seeded, based on the most points to the fewest.
The Americans, who finished second in Group A, are the fourth seed and will face fifth-seeded Colombia in the second quarterfinal on Sunday at 5:15 p.m. at BMO Stadium.
The first game on Sunday will feature No. 3 Mexico against No. 6 Paraguay (2 p.m.).
The first two quarterfinals are on Saturday. Top-seeded Canada will face No. 8 Costa Rica (4 p.m.) and No. 2 Brazil will face No. 7 Argentina (7:15 p.m.). All quarterfinal games will be played at BMO Stadium.
Costa Rica had to sweat out a tie-breaking “drawing of lots” situation at the end of the final game in Group C in Houston between Paraguay and El Salvador on Wednesday.
Puerto Rico and Costa Rica finished tied as the second-best third-place finishers. The teams were level on points, goal difference, goals scored and lowest number of points based on yellow and red cards.
To determine who would advance, the organizers had to conduct a draw. One of the game commissioners had the responsibility of selecting one ball to determine who advanced and Costa Rica was selected.
The semifinals are scheduled for March 6 at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, with the final on March 10 at the same venue.
