Charges against an Irvine man jailed after a 60-year-old man was shot to death following his abduction from his Chino Hills home are expected to be filed on Monday morning, Aug. 3, an announcement made as grieving family members and friends described the victim as a caring and selfless mentor.
San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson and Sheriff Shannon Dicus are expected to headline a morning news conference at the Chino Hills sheriff’s station and lay out a motive for the killing of Shukur Aikebaer. Jianquan Bo, 66, will likely appear in court on Monday to enter a plea, said Jacquelyn Rodriguez, a DA’s spokeswoman.
Bo is incarcerated on suspicion of murder and kidnapping at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, where he is being held without bail. He would likely appear in San Bernardino County Superior Court in that city either in person or via video.
Bo’s brother, Zhengfeng Bo, 67, drove to Aikebaer’s Monteverde Drive home with his brother in the passenger seat around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Department said. The electricity went out at the home, prompting Aikebaer to come outside to investigate. He was shot and thrown the trunk of the dark-colored sedan. Deputies responding to a 911 call found the car and stopped it about a mile away on Wandering Ridge Drive.
The driver got out, opened the trunk and fired once before deputies killed him, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The next day, deputies served a search warrant at the Bos’ home on Crossover near Benchmark in Irvine.
Then on Friday, ABC 7 reported that Zhengfeng Bo and Aikebaer were in a business relationship over a Pasadena apartment complex that soured, resulting in a pair of lawsuits, including one filed last week. Bo’s attorney said Aikebaer was a “middleman” in the relationship.
A family friend said on a GoFundMe fundraising page that Aikebaer was the family’s only source of income.
“He was caring, selfless, and the most loving person. He was an amazing father to three beautiful young daughters, and a loving husband to his wife,” the post says. “During this incredibly difficult time, we want to come together as a community to help ease some of the burden so they can focus on grieving and honoring his memory.”
The eldest daughter, Zilana Aikebaer, described her dad as ‘the greatest father ever” in an interview with CBS Los Angeles.
Beck Liu, 31, owner of Yifeng Bistro in Yorba Linda, said Sunday that Aikebaer is from China and used to operate a restaurant.
Aikebaer “treated me like his own son,” Liu said.
Liu said he grew close to Zilana when they attended Diamond Bar High School after their families entered the United States in the early 2010s. He used to take the middle daughter to the park and would carry the youngest “like a baby.”
On a rainy, chilly trip the Aikebaer family made to buy a car, Aikebaer lent Liu his jacket.
“They treated me like family. I treated them like family,” Liu said.
“Mr. Aikebaer was a really nice person,” Liu continued. “I always argued with my mom in high school, and he told me how to treat the family the right way. He showed me how to be a father. … I believe he’s doing this to everybody because he is such a good person.”
