San Pedro man arrested in fatal Long Beach shooting

LONG BEACH — A 24-year-old man was taken into custody in the shooting death of a man in Long Beach, police said Tuesday.

Christopher Rene Salguero of San Pedro was arrested Monday in the 1400 block of West Ninth Street in San Pedro, where detectives and SWAT team personnel executed a search warrant.

Salguero was booked on suspicion of murder and discharging a firearm resulting in significant bodily injury. He also has a pending felony case in Riverside County, according to Long Beach police.

He was being held in lieu of $3 million bail.

Salguero is accused in a shooting that occurred just before 1 a.m. Sunday in the 5300 block of East Second Street. Officers arrived to find Johnny Santos, 32, of Long Beach, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body, according to police.

Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Detectives determined that Santos had been in a fight with Salguero before the shooting, police said.

Anyone with information on the killing was asked to call Long Beach police detectives Jesus Espinoza or Alfredo Chairez at 562-570-7244. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
