Ready for a Hot Mess on Valentine’s Day? You’ll find it at Venice Beach

Remember the 1980s hair metal band Meat Riot?

Probably not. The fictional band was featured in a 2013 Jack in the Box commercial for the Super Bowl.

The ad, which you can watch on YouTube, showed Jack Box, the chain’s round-headed mascot, rocking out “Spinal Tap”-style in Meat Riot, promoting a burger called Hot Mess. It featured a beef patty with pickled jalapeños and a lot of cheese on sourdough toast.

Jack in the Box is bringing back Hot Mess for a limited time on Monday Feb. 16. But if you live near Venice Beach, you can get the Hot Mess on Valentine’s Day.

Jack in the Box will set up a pop-up on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 1515 Abbot Kinney Blvd., about a mile from the beach. It will be serving the Hot Mess from noon to 4 p.m., according to a news release.

The event is part of a yearlong celebration of Jack in the Box’s 75th anniversary, which is Feb. 21. The San Diego-based chain will be bringing back fan favorites from yesteryear along with new merchandise throughout 2026.

Saturday’s festivities will include free food, Jack Antenna Ball heads and some surprises, the news release said. And there will be a “special guest appearance” by streetwear brand The Hundreds, which has a  tie-in “Jack Was Here! Adam Bomb Collection.”

The first 75 attendees will also get a free limited-edition Jack in the Box/The Hundreds T-shirt, the news release said.

There will also be a pop-up Friday, Feb. 13 at 4340 Mission Blvd, San Diego. It will take place 10 p.m.-2 a.m., according to representatives.

Georgia-based Chick-fil-A is also marking a significant milestone this year, its 80th anniversary. It is celebrating with a series of anniversary cups. Its third design, featuring lemon-colored chicks, is available for $3.99, according to the chain’s website.
