Private plane carrying Grammy winner Karol G makes emergency landing at Van Nuys Airport

Grammy winner Karol G and the other passengers on a private jet were safe after a harrowing flight that landed at Van Nuys Airport.

The airplane made an emergency landing Thursday night, Feb. 29, after smoke was reported in the cockpit.

The plane departed Burbank’s airport with more a dozen people, ABC7 reported, but by the time it reached the Cajon Pass, it began returning to the Los Angeles area when the pilot reported smoke inside the cockpit.

The jet made it emergency landing at around 9 p.m.

Television video showed the Colombian reggaeton singer hugging people on the tarmac after she departed the jet.

Born Carolina Giraldo Navarro, the 33-year-old singer has won a Grammy, five Latin Grammys and four Billboard awards, according to ABC7. Her latest album is the first Spanish-language album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 English language chart.

Karol G won her first Grammy and was named Billboard magazine’s 2024 Woman of the Year in February. The Colombian singer-songwriter is expected to be honored at the Billboard Women in Music Awards on March 6.
