Pasadena police fatally shoot man they say refused to drop gun

A 36-year-old San Fernando man was fatally shot by police in Pasadena after pulling out a handgun during a foot pursuit Saturday evening, April 13.

The man, identified as Ricardo Guade Andrade, was approached by police around 8:39 p.m. while parked in a white pickup truck on Hudson Avenue, near Del Mar Boulevard. Police said Andrade was parked facing the wrong direction on a one-way street and they attempted to conduct a suspicious occupied vehicle check when the man sped off. They said he narrowly struck an officer with the truck.

A brief police pursuit ended when Andrade crashed into the front yard of a home on the 800 block of Arden Road. The suspect fled from the pickup truck and into the neighborhood, forcibly entering two homes before being located in the backyard of a home in the 700 block of Oak Knoll Circle, police said.

Police released a K9 dog on the man, who they said produced a handgun. When he refused to drop it, police said, they shot him. Andrade was hospitalized and later died from his injuries.

No officers were injured. It was unclear how many times Andrade was shot or how many officers were involved in the shooting.
