Forward progress was stopped in the Macy fire after burning 2,000 acres in the Antelope Valley as of Friday night, authorities said, while fire crews reached a 31% containment.
The fire was reported at about 2:35 p.m. near Highway 138 and North 110th Street West, with flames initially burning about 100 acres of brush, according to Fire Capt. Aaron Katon with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The rapidly moving flames had increased to about 660 acres by 3:35 p.m., with fire crews upgrading the fire to a third alarm. The blaze then ballooned to 1,100 acres as it moved north toward Kern County.
By 5 p.m., fire crews reported that the blaze had crossed into Kern County.
Evacuation orders were downgraded to evacuation warnings on Friday night. See the evacuation map here.
No injuries or structural damages have been reported, but “pretty decent winds (are) driving the fire,” Katon said.
The fire was at zero containment as of shortly before 7 p.m. on Friday. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
