Letters to the Editor: Election Day is here

We asked readers, What are you doing today, Election Day in California, and what are your hopes and fears for the balloting?

Any Democrat is preferable

Will drop off my ballot at the box near City Hall in Laguna Beach on Election Day. My preference has always been Katie Porter but if polls on election day show that only Becerra or Steyer are viable and need the extra push, I will vote for one of them. Any Democrat is preferable to lying, conspiracy-prone and election- and insurrection-denying MAGA idiots.

— Bob Gotch, Laguna Beach

A privilege to perform

Voting is a privilege that I respect and feel obligated to perform. I just completed my absentee ballot, and agreed with most of the newspaper’s recommendations.  I ‘m hoping for a conservative governor if it’s not too late to turn things around in California. We must have change.  I want voter ID just like the other 90% of Americans and will vote against anyone who tries to deny it.

— Julie Kemp, Mission Viejo

Hilton is the one

After reviewing all candidates and issues, I returned my ballot to the Registrar’s office about two weeks ago via USPS. After listening to debates, it was obvious that Steve Hilton is the only candidate who is not anti-Trump and who is not blaming our president for the ills and failures in our state.  Chad Bianco is the next best qualified person to govern California. I would love to see Hilton and Bianco at the top of the list preferred by voters to participate in the run-off in November.

Done!

Piece of cake. May 6 completed form, May 7 dropped off at post office, May 8 received receipt notice via text message, done!

Top two

My household of four people have already voted. For our part, it tickles us a little bit to think of the prospect of two Republican candidates for governor  — though that does not seem terribly realistic at this point, it did for a minute.
