With the goal of highlighting and empowering female entrepreneurs, authors, artists, activists, athletes and more, the sixth annual LATINAFest is taking place on Sunday, March 24 at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes in Los Angeles.
“It’s a celebration of all things Latina,” said Naibe Reynoso, who along with business partner Bel Hernandez Castillo, co-founded the single-day event.
“It’s a place where we feel seen, we feel heard, there are platforms for us to speak about topics that resonate with us. It’s a festival for multiple generations and everyone is welcomed, not just Latinas,” she added.
With about 3,000 people expected to attend the festival, Hernandez Castillo said that in the past the vibe has been so uplifting, she likes to compare it to “a Latina Disneyland.”
“There’s so much to do, so much to buy from other Latinas who are entrepreneurs,” she said. “Most of the products and services are culturally-driven and you’ll find things you won’t find at other outdoor festivals because it all comes from a passion of being who we are.”
Here’s what you can expect at LATINAFest.
Special guest speakers
Several panels are planned throughout the day including “The Ladies of Lopez,” which will feature actors and creators of the NBC show “Lopez Vs. Lopez.” Scheduled to appear is show co-creator and co-executive producer and actor Mayan Lopez, as well as fellow show actor Selenis Leyva and show co-creator Debby Wolfe.
Other speakers will include authors like Giovanna Gonzalez, who wrote the financial money guide “Cultura and Cash,” and Alejandra Campoverdi, whose book “First Gen: A Memoir,” talks about being a Mexican-American woman raised by an immigrant single mother in Los Angeles. Guests will also be able to hear from athletes such as, WBC Interim Boxing Champion Adelaida “La Cobra” Ruiz.
Shopping and food
There will be lots of shopping. Dozens of vendors will be selling clothing, art, shoes, hats, sunglasses and other items from Latina-owned businesses. There will also be plenty of food and beverages available for purchase, too.
Attendees can grab cocktails in the Cocktail Garden or pick up eats in the Food Alley, which is comprised of eateries like Tacos Casa, which makes traditional tacos, coffee from Clandestina Mobile Coffee Bar and Mexican & Japanese Hibachi fusion dishes from Mexibachi.
Other festival experiences
Aside from filling your shopping bags and sitting in on panels, you can check out a fashion show, takes some pics in the Barbie You Can Be Anything photo booth or get some drinks in the cocktail garden where there’s also a Sip & Paint set up.
There will also be a DJ spinning tunes, dance lessons, yoga and a Kids Corner set up for the little ones.
