LA County Board of Supervisors to offer agendas, other materials in four languages

Los Angeles County announced Wednesday the launch of multilingual online resources and digital displays aimed at making Board of Supervisors meetings more accessible to the public.

The upgrades include Senate Bill 707-compliant agenda web pages offering translated materials in Spanish, Tagalog and Mandarin, according to county officials.

The updated agenda web page provides direct access to translated meeting information, agenda materials and related Board resources in the three languages required under state law, officials said.

The county said visitors whose preferred language is not among those languages can continue using Google Translate to access information in dozens of additional languages.

Two digital screens have also been installed in the foyer of the Board Hearing Room at the Hall of Administration in downtown Los Angeles. The displays automatically show weekly Board agendas and supplemental items in English, along with rotating displays in Spanish, Tagalog and Mandarin, and include QR codes linking to agenda materials.

“In a county as expansive and diverse as ours, language should never be a barrier to connecting with your County government,” Supervisor Holly Mitchell said in a statement.

“By expanding multilingual resources and introducing digital tools that make it easier to navigate Board agendas, we are strengthening efforts for all lived experiences to be heard,” she added.

Officials said the changes are intended to improve public participation in county government and make it easier for residents to follow and participate in Board meetings.

“Whether someone is following a Board meeting for the first time or has been advocating for their community for years, our responsibility is to make it easier for people to understand how decisions are made and how they can be part of shaping them,” Supervisor Lindsey Horvath said.
