Freddie Freeman homers as Dodgers hand Padres another Cactus League loss

THE GAME: Freddie Freeman homered on the first pitch he saw this spring and the Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres for the second consecutive day, 4-1, on Friday afternoon at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Ariz.

PITCHING REPORT: Starter Landon Knack retired the side in order in each of the first two innings, striking out four of the six batters he faced. … Lefty T.J. McFarland and right-hander Nabil Crismatt each pitched a scoreless inning.

HITTING REPORT: Freeman drove in two runs with his home run and a sacrifice fly. … Miguel Vargas was 2 for 3 with a double off the shortstop’s glove and an infield single on a ball chopped onto the grass down the third-base line.

DEFENSE REPORT: Playing left field, Vargas made a running catch on Bryce Johnson’s blooper in the fifth inning.
