An apartment building in Van Nuys was damaged and a few residents were displaced after an explosion rocked the building on Saturday, March 16, authorities said.
Around 5:30 p.m., the blast erupted in one unit of the apartment building in the 7300 block of Woodman Avenue, blowing out the windows in the unit, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Nicholas Prange. No one was inside the unit at the time of the explosion, and no injuries were reported.
Two residents and their child who lived in the unit later came home to find out they were unable to return to their apartment, Prange said. The Red Cross was at the scene Saturday to help provide temporary housing for the family.
The apartment building did not appear to suffer major structural damage from the explosion, Prange said, though crews from city’s department of building and safety were working to determine whether the family could return to the unit.
The cause of the explosion remained under investigation Sunday.
