That murky Avatar “experience” that Disney has dangled as a tantalizing possibility for Anaheim as the company and the city hammer out the final details of the massive $1.9 billion DisneylandForward project just got a little clearer.
Disney CEO Bob Iger said an Avatar-based themed land is coming to the Disneyland resort during a Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference on Tuesday, March 5.
“We have one Avatar-based land, Pandora, in Florida,” Iger said at the teleconference. “We’re going to put a second one in California.”

Iger announced in February 2023 during a Disney earnings call that an “exciting Avatar experience” was coming to the Disneyland resort. At the time, Iger described Avatar as a core franchise for Disney.
What is an Avatar experience? A new theme park, land, attraction, show, character meet-and-greet or blue churro? Nobody seemed to know.
A follow-up D23 blog post promised the Disneyland resort’s Avatar experience would rival Pandora — The World of Avatar themed land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida.

“While details on the coming Avatar experience remain under wraps, it promises to be as amazing as those found at Walt Disney World Resort,” according to D23.

Over the past couple years, Disney has dangled the possibility of expanding Disneyland and Disney California Adventure with new themed lands based on popular movie franchises as part of the DisneylandForward project.
The DisneylandForward proposal working its way through the approval process at the City of Anaheim seeks to update a 1990s Anaheim city plan to allow for a mix of theme park, hotel, retail, dining and entertainment on the eastern and western edges of the Disneyland resort.
“We have thousands of acres of land still to develop,” Iger said during the Morgan Stanley teleconference. “We could actually build seven new full lands if we wanted to around the world, including the ability to increase the size of Disneyland in California, which everybody thinks is kind of landlocked, by 50%.”
