Yankees Slugger Named Fit for Surprising NL Contender Ahead of Trade Deadline

The New York Yankees could trade players off their roster to fill other needs.

New York has a surplus of outfielders, especially with Spencer Jones in Triple-A. The Yankees will have to make a decision on Jasson Dominguez once he returns from injury and his future.

With the Yankees having needs elsewhere, MLB analyst Patrick McAvoy of SI believes New York could trade Dominguez to the Milwaukee Brewers.

“For Milwaukee, the thing that it needs is some more offense. Milwaukee has the fewest homers in baseball with 37. They need some more pop,” McAvoy wrote. “As we inch closer to the 2026 trade deadline this summer, the Brewers should be surveying the market for an option who can help in this area. One team that would be an intriguing trade fit for the Brewers would arguably be the New York Yankees. …

“When it comes to the trade deadline, the Brewers should simply be looking for offense and if a player is controllable beyond the 2026 season, that would be a bonus. The Yankees would be an interesting team to target because or outfieler Jasson Domínguez. Right now, Domínguez is on the Injured List, but if he’s healthy and playing well around the trade deadline, he’s someone Milwaukee should circle and call about.”

Dominguez would get playing time with the Brewers and would add some much-needed offense to the lineup. The Yankees, meanwhile, could get some prospects they could flip for other assets to help this year.

Dominguez can’t be a free agent until 2031, so he could be a key part of the Brewers roster for years to come.

Dominguez Working Back From Injury

Any potential trade for Dominguez will have to wait as he’s dealing with an injury.

Dominguez is on the IL after slamming into the wall to make a catch. He underwent an MRI, and it revealed that it was a scary situation for him.

“It was scary to see how I hit the wall, but I definitely watched it. It was a great catch,” Domínguez said. “I felt the ball when I caught it, but then I just went to the ground. I could feel it was still in my glove, so that was a relief.”

The injury happened on May 7, and Dominguez is still rehabbing the shoulder injury. He had a cortisone shot recently, but there is no exact timeframe for his return.

“There’s definitely been some improvement, but I can’t give you a time right now,” Domínguez said. “It’s getting better. I’ve been working at it. It’s a day-by-day thing, trying to get the motion back and trying to get the shoulder in a good position.”

Dominguez is hitting .200 with 1 home run and 4 RBIs this season.

Yankees Offense Come to Life

In New York’s series finale against the Athletics, New York scored three runs in the third inning.

It marked the most runs in one inning in 106 years, as it helped seal a lopsided win for the Yankees.

“When we have energy and we’re pressing on the gas against all these teams, we’re the best team in baseball,” Aaron Judge said. “I just wanted the guys to remember that and not forget that. … You go out there and put [up] 13 in one inning there, it’s kind of tough to come back from.”

The Yankees are 36-23 and in second place in the AL East.
