On Sunday, the New York Yankees played the Miami Marlins (at home) in the Bronx.
The Yankees were looking for the sweep after winning the first two games.
However, they allowed the Marlins to score four runs in the eighth inning, leading to a 7-6 loss.

Jake Bird allowed three of those runs in the eighth inning.
He had been coming off four straight games without letting up a run to start the season.

The Yankees dropped to 7-2 in their first nine games of the new season, which still has them at the top of the American League East.
Following the Marlins, the Yankees will remain at home to host the Athletics with the series starting on Monday.
After reaching the 2024 World Series, they are coming off a season where they lost in the ALDS.

As for Bird, he was picked in the fifth round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
Before the Yankees, he spent the first three and a half seasons of his career playing for the Colorado Rockies.
Over 195 games, Bird has gone 12-12 with a 4.79 ERA.
