Yankees’ Home Opener Begins Tomorrow After Impressive Road Trip

The Yankees get ready for their 2026 home opener tomorrow at Yankee Stadium against the Miami Marlins after completing their first road trip of the year, in which through six games between San Francisco and Seattle they finished with an impressive 5-1 record.

The Yankees swept the Giants in San Francisco in the Opening Day series opener, and then won two out of three against a Mariners team that just narrowly missed reaching the World Series last season. The 2026 Yankees squad, although much of the same, has been carried this first week of the season by the starting rotation and bullpen. The Yankees pitching staff didn’t allow a single until the third game of the Giants series. That’s 20 innings of scoreless pitching.

Yankees Pitching Has Been Historically Dominant

Through their first six games the Yankees rank 1st in all of baseball with a team ERA of 1.01. This has led to some pretty historic benchmarks for the Yankees pitching staff. According to sports researcher Katie Sharp, they “are the only team since 1900 to allow five runs or fewer and strike out a minimum of 45 batters in the first 5 games of a season”, states Sharp.

According to MLB researcher Sarah Langs, the Yankees starting pitchers “have an ERA of 0.53, being the lowest starting staff recorded ERA in the first six games of a season since earned runs became a stat in 1913”, states Langs.

The Yankees starting staff has been in large part led by dominant pitching performances in San Francisco and Seattle by Yankees ace, left hander Max Fried, and rising young star, 24 year old right handed pitcher Cam Schlittler. The Yankees bullpen has also been nearly perfect, and a big reason why the team has allowed just three runs in their first five games of the season.

Yankees and Marlins Have Same Record Currently

The Yankees will hope to carry this momentum into their season opener this upcoming Friday at Yankee Stadium versus the Miami Marlins, who’ve also gotten off to a hot start this season with a 5-1 record as well. The Yankees will send young starting pitcher Will Warren to the mound. Warren pitched in the series finale on Wednesday in San Francisco against the Giants, going 4.1 innings pitched with one earned run and three strikeouts.

Warren had an up and down season in 2025, posting a 9-8 record with a 4.44 ERA in 33 games pitched. Warren provided the Yankees with much needed innings after starting pitchers Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil went down with injuries. Warren will look to build off this season debut against a young Marlins team that doesn’t have super high expectations for 2026, but has scored 38 runs combined as an offense in their first six games in matchups with the Colorado Rockies and Chicago White Sox.

The Marlins will give young right hander Eury Perez the ball. Perez, who’s just 22 years old, stands at an imposing 6’8 220 lbs and is coming off a decent season debut last Saturday against the Rockies in which he pitched seven innings, striking out eight batters and allowing three earned runs in a 4-3 Marlins win. Perez had a somewhat disappointing sophomore year in 2025 after a strong rookie impression in 2023.

Perez pitched to a 4.25 ERA in 2025 in just 95.1 innings. Perez had a strong rookie campaign in 2023, posting a 3.15 ERA with 108 strikeouts in just 91.1 innings pitched, but then was sidelined for all of the 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery in the beginning of April. Perez features an average fastball of 97 mph, alongside five other pitches in his arsenal, which include a slider, change up, sweeper, curve, and cutter, according to Baseball Savant.

First pitch tomorrow is at 1:35 PM E.T. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for home opener pregame introductions and other related festivities. For the Yankees and their fans, this day was a long time coming, and for what the fans and the organization hopes will be a championship season.
