Yankees-Giants Game on TV Today: Can You Watch MLB on Netflix for Free?

MLB Opening Day will be a little bit different this season with the New York Yankees taking on the San Francisco Giants on Netflix on Wednesday, March 25. Coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern with the first pitch expected at 8:05 p.m. It will be the only game on today’s MLB schedule.

Instead of a traditional TV channel, fans will need a Netflix subscription to be able to watch the Yankees-Giants game. Additionally, it will be an Opening Night in primetime that leads to the full Opening Day schedule on Thursday, March 26.

The game marks the beginning of a new partnership between MLB and Netflix. Unfortunately, Netflix is not currently offering a free trial meaning a subscription will be required to watch New York take on San Francisco.

If you are only interested in watching the Yankees-Giants game, the best option is to subscribe to Netflix for one month and then cancel. Netflix plans start as low as $7.99 for a subscription.

The Yankees-Giants contest in the lone MLB game on Wednesday, March 25. There will be a full slate of MLB games on Thursday, March 26. Netflix’s coverage for the game will include several former MLB players, including Barry Bonds.

“Netflix has set a starting lineup of commentators for MLB Opening Night featuring Hall of Famers, World Series champions and perennial All-Stars,” Netflix detailed.

“Headlined by home run king Barry Bonds and all-time greats Albert Pujols and CC Sabathia, the broadcast is anchored by MLB Network’s Matt Vasgersian as play-by-play lead and Emmy Award-winning host Elle Duncan as desk host.”

In addition to Opening Night, Netflix will broadcast the Home Run Derby as well as the iconic Field of Dreams game on August 13, as the Minnesota Twins take on the Philadelphia Phillies. The matchup will take place on the “Field of Dreams” movie set.


Yankees vs. Giants Pitchers: New York Will Start Max Fried While San Francisco Turns to Logan Webb

There will two stars on the mound as the MLB season begins. Max Fried will be the Yankees starting pitcher against the Giants. For San Francisco, it will be Logan Webb who gets the nod fresh off his World Baseball Classic appearance.

The Yankees are 1.5-run favorites over the Giants, per FanDuel. As for the rest of the lineup, the Yankees made it clear heading into the season that it is manager Aaron Boone who makes the decision without input from the front office.

“It irritates the (expletive) out of me, because it’s so stupid, it’s so false, but yet people just throw it out willy-nilly,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner during a March 23, feature story titled, “Inside how Aaron Boone makes the Yankees’ lineup: Debunking a narrative that won’t die.”

“You can’t get the prior two managers or the current manager to testify under oath that they’ve ever been dictated the lineup once in (my tenure).”
