Why Eagles Are a Big Winner Following the Jaylen Waddle Trade

The Philadelphia Eagles had absolutely no part to play in the blockbuster Jaylen Waddle trade on Tuesday morning.

In a shocking move, the Miami Dolphins shipped their star wide receiver to the Denver Broncos. Moving on from Waddle was a tough decision, but the Dolphins received a haul from the Broncos.

After all of the news cleared, the final trade details ended up being Waddle being shipped to Denver along with a 2026 fourth-round pick in exchange for the No. 30 overall pick this year, a third-round pick this year, and a fourth-round pick for the 2026 NFL Draft as well.

Despite not being involved in the trade, it actually could have made a big impact for the Eagles. Howie Roseman is almost certainly celebrating the move.

Let’s take a look at why Philadelphia should be ecstatic about the Waddle trade.

Why the Philadelphia Eagles Are Big Winners From the Trade

As noted by Arye Pulli on X, the Waddle trade has given Roseman and the Eagles a strong leg to stand on when it comes to trading star wide receiver A.J. Brown.

Here is a breakdown from Pulli about how the trade could impact Philadephia.

“The Eagles are a big winner from the Jaylen Waddle-Broncos trade,” Pulli wrote.

“AJ Brown is only 17 months older than Waddle, and there’s no question that he’s more talented. He’s also under contract for a year longer than Waddle is. Howie Roseman’s asking price of a first- and second-round pick isn’t far-fetched considering what Miami just got for their star receiver.”

Brown has been one of the most talked about names in trade rumors this offseason. No deal has been completed, but with Waddle setting a strong wide receiver trade market, Roseman can continue holding firm on his aggressive demands.

Where Do Thinks Stand With a Potential A.J. Brown Trade?

So far this offseason, there are two teams clearly involved in pursuit of Brown. Those two teams are the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots.

While the Eagles have not received an offer they want to accept just yet, talks are still ongoing. There is a belief that a final decision on Brown may not be made until closer to June 1.

Brown is coming off of a 2025 NFL season with Philadelphia that saw him play in 15 games. He caught 78 passes for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns.

Whether Brown is traded or not, the Eagles will be in good shape. Keeping Brown would mean keeping one of the top weapons in the NFC. After the Waddle trade, moving on from Brown should mean a major haul in return.

Expect to continue hearing rumors and speculation about Brown’s future in Philadelphia. The Waddle trade could make interested teams more aggressive.
