White Sox give No. 1 draft pick Roch Cholowsky record bonus: report

Roch Cholowsky, whom the White Sox took with the first overall pick in the MLB Draft on Saturday, passed his physical and received a record signing bonus, according to Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline.

Cholowsky, a shortstop out of UCLA, signed for $10.35 million, well above the slot value of $11,350,600, Callis reported. That breaks the bonus record of $9.3 million set by Chase Burns (Reds, No. 2 pick) and Charlie Condon (Rockies, No. 3) in 2024.

After meeting with the White Sox and exploring Chicago in June, Cholowsky was sold on the team and the city.

“I left the next morning and called my agent and told him that’s where I want to be and he’s got to do whatever he can to make it work,” Cholowsky said Saturday. “I know that’s where I want to be, and I hope you guys feel the same way about me. I fell in love with the city while I was out there and very excited to get back.”
