The White Sox are acquiring outfielder Brenton Doyle from the Rockies, adding a right-handed bat to a left-handed-heavy unit. Right-hander Mason Adams, the eighth-ranked prospect in the Sox’ system, according to MLB.com, and infielder Carlos Vielma are heading to the Rockies.
Doyle, 28, is slashing .214/.287/.282 with one home run in 45 games this season. His best season was in 2024, when he hit 23 homers, stole 30 bases and had an OPS+ of 102. He’s owed $911,790 for the rest of the season and is under club control through 2029.
The Sox have left-handed hitters Sam Antonacci and Tristan Peters in the outfield, in addition to designated hitter Andrew Benintendi. Braden Montgomery is a switch hitter. They had right-handed outfielder Derek Hill earlier this season but traded him to the Phillies when righty Everson Pereira returned from injury.
Adams has ascended quickly this season, moving from rookie ball to High-A Winston-Salem to Triple-A Charlotte. In nine games (seven starts) with the Knights, Adams has a 4.25 ERA with 36 strikeouts and 17 walks in 36 innings.
