People who need shelter from this week’s heavy winter snowstorm can find a place to keep warm in the following locations, according to a map produced by the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
Denver
The McNichols Civic Center Building in the heart of downtown Denver at 144 W. Colfax Ave. will be open through 9 a.m. Saturday.
People who have pets that also needs sheltering can go to Stone Creek shelter at the former Best Western hotel at 4595 Quebec St.
Denver’s recreation centers also will be open Thursday and Friday during the day as warming centers.
People can also go to one of the city’s regular access points, including:
Lawrence Street Community Center, 2222 Lawrence St., for individual men
Samaritan House, 2301 Lawrence St., for individual women
Urban Peak, 2100 Stout St., for youth 15-20 years old
The Connection Center, 303-295-3366, for families
Arvada
The Cornerstone Church of God at 5624 Yarrow St. will be open for sheltering. They ask people to call the hotline to check availability and add guests to a list at 720-398-4041.
Lakewood
The city’s Severe Weather Shelter at 8000 W. Colfax Ave. will be open 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Thursday and Friday.
Another shelter option is River Church at 220 S. Yarrow St. Guests must reserve their spot starting at 10 a.m. by calling 720-398-4041. People can call after 3 p.m. to check if there is still space available. This shelter only takes single adults and couples — no families and no pets are allowed. Guests must be able to go up and down stairs and get down and up from the floor easily.
Englewood
The Englewood Public Library is open during normal business hours — 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. — to warm up inside.
Immanuel Lutheran Church at 3695 S Acoma St. will be open as a shelter. The church does not accept pets or families — single adults and couples only — and guests must be able to go up and down stairs and get on and off the floor easily.
Aurora
The Village Exchange Center at 1609 Havana St. will be open to refugees and immigrants through Saturday morning.

The Aurora Day Resource Center at 13387 E. 19th Place will be open through Saturday morning.
The Comitis Crisis Center at 2178 Victor St. will be open for families through Saturday morning.
A warming center will be available at Fox Ridge Middle School located at 26301 E. Arapahoe Road through 7 a.m. Friday. The center will receive stranded motorists or people who need to warm up briefly (access via South Oak Hill Way off of South Powhaton Road and enter through door 9).
Thornton
The Margaret W. Carpenter Recreation Center at 11151 Colorado Blvd. will be open as a warming center on Thursday and Friday from 5 a.m. through 9 p.m.
