The way Major League Baseball operates, there are only four or five teams that realistically had a shot at signing top free agent Kyle Tucker. Those teams are the New York Yankees, Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers, and maybe a team like the Phillies or Orioles.
Ultimately, it was the Los Angeles Dodgers that outbid both New York MLB teams and Toronto in landing the top free agent, Kyle Tucker, to a massive $240 million deal. Both New York baseball clubs had been linked to Tucker, so what’s next for the Mets and Yankees as they continue to TRY and leave a mark this offseason? Only five weeks remain until MLB Spring Training.

Mets Land Bo Bichette, What’s Next for Yankees?
As this story is being written, the New York Mets have made a massive signing by reaching a deal with star shortstop Bo Bichette to a three-year, $126 million deal, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
This is huge news for the Mets, who land a top free agent after whiffing on Kyle Tucker, and is bad news for the Blue Jays, who miss out on both Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker.

So, what’s next for the Yankees?
At this point, Brian Cashman and the rest of the front office MUST do everything in their power to land Cody Bellinger. If Bellinger lands with the Mets or Blue Jays, which seems likely as they are both strong suitors and good fits, the Yankees will be falling behind tremendously this offseason.
The frenzy of MLB’s hot stove season is in full swing, and with the Yankees missing out on top free agents left and right over this cycle, time is running out.

Will the Yankees Make a Big Splash?
This remains the million-dollar question. Will the Yankees make a big splash this offseason?
It’s clear the front office loves the internal options of this Yankees squad, but with all the other AL East teams like the Blue Jays, Orioles, and even Red Sox being so active, New York is putting itself behind the eight ball.
The Yankees could certainly make a big splash in other ways, like making a big trade for a guy like Freddy Peralta, Steven Kwan, or Jo Adell, but again, time is of the essence, and as top free agents continue to drop off the table left and right, the Yankees’ fan base will continue to grow restless.
The worst part about all of this massive news across MLB is the fact that the Yankees seem to be the odd man out in every equation.
They have not spent even close to $50 million this offseason, lost their top two relievers to the Mets, and now miss out on Kyle Tucker and several other free agents.
I wrote this in a previous post, but if manager Aaron Boone is really on the hot seat, boy oh boy, the front office is not doing much to aid in the efforts of keeping him around past the halfway point of the 2026 season.
