Purple power

Friday. The Colorado Rockies, who lost 16-1 on Opening Day in Arizona, will return to Denver for the team’s home opener on Friday, April 5, and if that score is any indication, you might need a drink before, during or after the game. The bars and restaurants around Coors Field will, of course, have you covered with Rockies-themed drinks and food specials. Here’s a sampling.

Wynkoop Brewing, 1634 18th St., is serving purple Dinger Margaritas. made with tequila, lime, agave and butterfly pea powder, along with hot dogs and Kooperstown Blonde Ale. Across the street, Denver Union Station is throwing a patio party with a visit from Rockies mascot Dinger along with a live DJ and kids activities. Wonderyard Garden + Table, 2200 Larimer St., will have three purple cocktails — La Mariposa, On The Rockies and The Purple Diamond — while Tamayo, 1400 Larimer, serves up purple and black Blake Street Bomber margaritas.

Citizen Rail, 1899 16th Street Mall, brings back its Opening Day Cookout, featuring brats with purple sauerkraut and a purple cocktail called the Walk Off Wonder. Los Chingones, 2463 Larimer, hosts a rooftop party starring its $10 Dingerita and a $5 dip trio served in a mini Rockies helmet. Jax Fish House, 1539 17th St., will be slinging gumbo-topped hot dogs and Purple Wave Cocktails, while the various bars and restaurants around the Dairy Block,1800 Wazee, will feature multiple activities, including T-shirt printing, artwork and food and drink specials.

Lights out

Monday. Although Denver isn’t in the path of the total solar eclipse on April 8, sky-watchers here will be able to get a decent view of a partial eclipse, according to the Denver Astronomical Society, which plans to hold a special free observing event at the University of Denver’s historic Chamberlin Observatory (weather permitting) at 2930 E. Warren Ave.

DAS members “will have solar telescopes and other equipment on the park lawn for public observation,” the organization said. “Bring lawn chairs, sunscreen and a hat. If you have a solar telescope, bring it to the event and share the view with others.” The partial eclipse begins at 11:28 a.m. with maximum obscuration at 12:40 p.m. The show ends at 1:54 p.m. Eclipse glasses will be available for purchase while supplies last. Fancy a pint?

Wednesday. More than 225 Colorado breweries will participate in the 9th annual Colorado Pint Day on April 10. The event, organized by the Colorado Brewers Guild as a fundraiser, allows people to buy a collectible glass along with a beer; $1 of each pint glass sold goes to the Guild.

Each year, the guild teams up with a local artist to create a design for the glass. Rhyan Montgomery, a beertender for Ramblebine Brewing in Grand Junction, came up with the artwork this time around.
