One of the biggest names left on the board in the 2027 recruiting cycle has officially locked in his summer plans, and the Alabama Crimson Tide remains in a prime position heading into the most important stretch of his recruitment.
According to reporting from 247Sports reporter Benjamin Wolk, five-star EDGE prospect KJ Green has finalized his official visit schedule ahead of an Aug. 8 commitment date.
And notably for Crimson Tide football fans, Green intentionally saved his trip to Tuscaloosa for last.
KJ Green Official Visit Schedule Before Aug. 8 Commitment
Green told 247Sports that he has had Aug. 8 circled as his decision day for quite some time, and now the final phase of his recruitment is set to begin with five major official visits.
First Green intends to visit Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs this weekend. Then he will head to Eugene to visit the Oregon Ducks on May 29-31. Following that trip, Green will be off to Austin to visit the Texas Longhorns on June 5-7. Before heading to Tuscaloosa on June 19-21, he will take an official visit to the South Carolina Gamecocks on June 12-14.
The order of those visits may be just as important as the schools involved, especially considering what Green had to say about Alabama receiving the final trip before his commitment.
KJ Green Explains Why Alabama Gets the Final Official Visit
Green did not hide how highly he thinks of Alabama during his comments to 247Sports.
“I actually wanted them to be my last official visit,” Green said. “I feel like I wanted that last impression to be the last thing on my mind, honestly.”
That statement alone is enough to grab the attention of Crimson Tide fans, but Green went even further when discussing where Alabama stands in his recruitment.
“Alabama was one of those schools that I was leaning hard towards in my recruitment throughout this whole period of time,” Green explained. “So I was like, man, I just have to save what I think is the best for the last, honestly.”
For much of the recruiting process, Alabama has been viewed as one of the major contenders, maybe even the outright leader for the elite pass rusher. His latest comments will only intensify that belief.
Green also praised head coach Kalen DeBoer for keeping Alabama among the nation’s elite following the transition from the Nick Saban era.
“Consistency and winning,” Green said. “Honestly, that’s the two biggest things. Coach DeBoer, he filled some huge shoes. That’s big for him, and I think they’re definitely still going to be a contender in the national championship.”
Alabama Battling Texas, Oregon for Elite EDGE Prospect
While Alabama continues to sit firmly in the mix, Green acknowledged that several other powerhouse programs have made major impressions this spring.
Steve Sarkisian and Texas have surged into contention after Green developed a strong relationship with defensive line coach LaAllan Clark, while the Oregon Ducks have emerged as another serious challenger after hosting Green earlier this offseason.
Still, the fact that Alabama will get the final word before his Aug. 8 decision could prove significant.
247Sports noted that Green has long viewed Alabama as one of the premier programs in his recruitment, and the Crimson Tide will now have an opportunity to make one final impression before one of the nation’s top defensive prospects announces his college choice.
Why KJ Green Would Be Massive for Alabama’s 2027 Class
Landing a defensive player of the caliber of Green would represent another major recruiting victory for DeBoer and Alabama’s coaching staff.
Green is widely viewed as one of the top EDGE defenders in the country thanks to his explosiveness, length, and pass-rushing upside. Players with his blend of athleticism and physical tools are rare, which is why virtually every national powerhouse has been aggressively pursuing him.
For Alabama, adding an elite edge rusher like Green would continue the program’s long tradition of dominant defensive front-seven play while also reinforcing the momentum DeBoer has generated on the recruiting trail.
Now, all eyes will shift toward June when Green arrives in Tuscaloosa for what could become one of the most important recruiting weekends of Alabama’s summer.
