Washington Wizards guard Trae Young is a four-time All-Star who led the entire NBA in assists in 2025.
However, he’s also the second-most overrated players in the entire league, according to his peers.

In the 2026 edition of the annual anonymous NBA Player Poll conducted by The Athletic, Young was voted by his peers as the second-most overrated players in the entire league.
In all, 81 total players voted in the poll and Young received 8.6 percent of the vote, which was tied with Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert for the second-most. Houston Rockets star center Alpren Sengun was voted as the league’s most overrated player with 12.3 percent of the vote.
Other players to receive multiple votes include Karl-Anthony Towns, Paolo Banchero, Ja Morant, Scottie Barnes, Deni Avdija, Luka Doncic, Pascal Siakam and Dillon Brooks, among others.
Young is no stranger when it comes to being labeled as overrated by his peers. He was voted as the league’s most overrated player in the very same poll back in 2023.
In fairness to Young, he was extremely hampered by injury issues throughout the 2025-26 season, and that could have impacted how he was viewed by his peers. Young played in just 10 games for the Atlanta Hawks before being traded to Washington prior to the trade deadline. He then just played five games in a Wizards jersey before being shut down due to a quad injury.
Trae Young is Already Facing an Uncertain Future with Wizards

Young just got traded to the Wizards earlier this year, but his future with the franchise is already in question. Young has a $48 million player option for next season that he could turn down in favor of a new deal in free agency.
He’s widely expected to turn down the player option, and at that point that Wizards would have to lock him up on a new deal to keep him in Washington long-term. After trading for him, it seems likely that’s what Washington would want to do, but we’ll have to wait and see.
It’s also fair to wonder if the fact that the Wizards landed the No. 1 overall pick in the highly-hyped 2026 NBA Draft will alter their approach at all when it comes to Young’s future with the franchise.
